MA in Biography: Dissertation
Course leader: Professor Jane Ridley
Summer and Autumn Terms (75 units)
Throughout the Taught MA course, students are encouraged to think and read around the topic of their dissertation. The topic is eventually agreed as a result of discussions between the course teacher and the student. Students working on dissertations receive one-on-one supervisions, if possible fortnightly. The dissertation provides students with the opportunity to engage in a piece of biographical writing. Students are encouraged to show awareness of biographical issues, such as applying techniques of biographical research to their chosen topic. Students are required to review the literature in their topic area, to relate their research to wider biographical themes and to discuss their research methodology.
Assessment: Dissertation of 12,000 - 20,000 words.
