Lionel Weston, the Learning Support and Disability Adviser, is an experienced teacher of students with specific learning difficulties. All students disclosing a disability or learning difficulty are invited to discuss their additional needs with the Learning Support Adviser, who will work to ensure that needs are met. Support sessions are offered to match individual need and can be more or less frequent, as appropriate. These sessions aim to promote awareness of effective, individual study strategies.
Lionel can offer strategies to help with:
- Dyslexia, dyspraxia and other specific learning difficulties
- Disability issues
- Study skills support
- Additional needs for examinations
- Revision programmes

Sarah-Louise Johnston, the Student Welfare Officer is a workplace psychologist with many years experience enabling people to develop their interpersonal skills and ability to cope. Sarah-Louise will be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns for example in the areas of:
- general welfare
- stress management
- emotional, psychological and physical health and well-being
- time management
enabling you to access appropriate specialist support.

Kate Young is Secretary to the Welfare Department. She has many years’ experience of working with students, offering advice and dealing with a wide variety of concerns. She maintains close contact with other departments. Kate can offer assistance with:
- Locating / registering with a doctor, dentist, sexual health clinics
- Assisting students with completion of Tier 4 and Tier 1 visa application forms
- Providing information on local provision of schools, nurseries and playgroups
- Assisting with Council Tax exemption applications
- Making appointments for students to see the Welfare Adviser and Learning Support / Disability Adviser
- General welfare issues

Betty is a fully qualified, accredited and experience psychotherapist and counsellor, trained in specialist areas which include bereavement, depression, anxiety disorders and inter-cultural issues.

Marie Holloway has a medical background and many years’ experience working with people, with a range of issues and experiences, from different cultural backgrounds. Marie will be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns and offer support. Marie can advise on:

- stress management
- appropriate specialist support
- referrals to the Student Counsellor
