Who are we?
We are a student run organisation for students who are either studying law or interested in the law.
What we do
Advocacy Club
As Per the Law Society’s mandate to organise moots and negotiations, The Society has created an advocacy club where students are placed into one of four sets (Denning, Hale, Hoffman and Wilberforce) and compete against each other in moots, negotiations and other advocacy events, gaining valuable practical experience. Once a student has competed in a number of events they may style themselves OG and partake in the running of the club.
Academic and Careers
The Law Society regularly invites speakers to advise to speak and provide practical advice on legal careers and applying for professional courses. We also organise advocacy workshops and exam technique and revision sessions.
We organise trips to courts in Oxford and London and have recently visited the Supreme Court as well as trips to other places of legal interest.
Philanthropy
The Law Society regularly raises money for charities and disaster relief organisations as well as supporting the Amnesty International Student Society in raising awareness about human rights issues across the world.
Social
Every semester we organise a range of social events from parties to barbeques, trips to interesting places (theme parks, paintballing) and game nights.
We also organise the annual Law Ball. This year it will be held on 6 October at the Tythe Barn in Bicester, Oxforshire. The evening will start at 19:00 with a three-course dinner, cooked by Jamie Oliver’s team of chefs with entertainment throughout the evening. With fire-breathers as one of the acts on offer, it’ll certainly be an evening to remember.
Tickets are available at £50.00 each from any Law Society representative (or email law-society@buckingham.ac.uk). A limited number of tickets
will also be available from the SU Office.
