The Library has purchased ebooks via Dawsonera, which are only available with your Athens password (if you do not have an Athens password you can request one via the Library). In 2010 we are enhancing our online catalogue with new Library Resources. Go to the Library Resources link on our catalogue to find Rooms for subjects (most still under development). Library Resources via Athens is a completed link and if working from home you may find this Room useful with all the databases.
Edward Legg local history collection opened on 9 December 2008.
Edward Legg bequested his collection of local history material to the University of Buckingham on his death. The collection at the Franciscan Library, Verney Park includes local books on the following counties:
- Bedfordshire
- Berkshire
- Buckinghamshire
- Essex
- Hertfordshire
- London
- Northamptonshire
- Oxfordshire
- Cambridgeshire - limited coverage
- Warwickshire - limited coverage
- Lincoln - limited coverage
All maps, journals and pre-1900 local history materials are available for reference use only at the Hunter Street Library. Reference use of both Libraries is available free, to anyone, on completion of an external visitor's form.
External users who wish to borrow up to 5 books from the Library, including the Edward Legg local history books, would need to pay the external visitor borrowing fee of £60 p.a. (£40 p.a. for Friends / Alumni). This would entitle them to week loan borrowing from the Legg collection and month loan of the general loan collection.
The Edward Legg collection is open Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00 at the Franciscan Library for the books, and at Hunter Street Library for the reference material.
