Course Outline
Prior to undertaking the LLM lawyers from non-Common Law jurisdictions may take a Certificate in Common Law. This is a 1-term module starting in September prior to the LLM programme which commences in January.
The course provides an introduction to the basics of the common law system and to areas of substantive English Law, including Contract, Torts, European Law and Trusts.
Teaching Method
The main teaching method is by seminar. It encourages the development of clear analytical skills and creates a forum where you can test your ideas against the arguments of your peers. Whether you enter the legal profession or business world you will find it is essential to have developed persuasive abilities.
Course material is increasingly being made available on the University’s own Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. This allows students to download lecture notes, submit assignments and share resources in an electronic forum both within the University’s computer network and remotely.
