Entry requirements
What academic qualifications do I need?
Entry requirements can be found on the programme description page:
- Certificate in Common Law
- Diploma in International and Commercial Law
- LLM in International and Commercial Law
What if English isn't my first language?
Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English. An equivalent to an overall score of 6.5 in IELTS is the minimum requirement.
See Entry requirements for international students for more information.
If your English level is currently below our minimum requirement (but your academic qualifications are of the standard required), you could consider joining us on an EAP (English for Academic Purposes) programme before starting your degree, for instance:
| IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent) | Join us in July for a 6-month EAP Foundation programme and start your LLM in January the following year. |
| IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) | Join us in September for a 3-month EAP Foundation programme and start your LLM in January the following year. |
Mature students
Mature applicants are considered on the basis of their work experience as well as any actual academic qualifications. We interview mature applicants wherever possible.
Is there anything else which might help my application?
There are also other details we take into account when considering your application.
- Your work experience / voluntary work or part-time work is important especially if it shows that you have gained valuable experience in an environment related to your chosen degree subject.
- If you are a mature student, your current and previous work will be considered.
- If you have had the opportunity to attend evening classes in your chosen subject area or to study it via distance learning, these would be useful experiences in strengthening your application.
- Although it is not required, we encourage candidates to visit us on the campus at Buckingham whenever possible.
