Two terms (30 units)

This wide-ranging course has been specifically designed for Accounting and Finance students wishing to gain exemption from the relevant initial law exams with the major professional accountancy bodies. Furthermore it serves as an introduction to law for students studying on the following courses:

  • BSc Economics, Business and Law .
  • Certificate of Preliminary Legal Studies, i.e. Access students intending to start the LLB programme in the following January but who have not been engaged in full-time study for some time, or for students who have qualifications other than A-levels or their equivalent.
  • Certificate in Common Law , i.e. pre- LLM students from non-common law systems wishing to improve their English legal knowledge and language before commencing their course.

On completion of the course, students should have a fairly good overview and understanding of the major non-criminal aspects of English Law.

The course covers the following topics :

  • English Legal System (including European Union and European Convention issues)
  • Contract
  • Agency
  • Sale of Goods
  • Aspects of Tort
  • Product Liability
  • Employment Law
  • Information Technology and its legal environment

The course is assessed by continuous assessment (20%) and unseen examination (80%).
