School of Science & Medicine’s annual sports day and barbecue

School of Science & Medicine Annual Sports Day

On one day each year, scientists, psychologists and computer experts throw aside their work and come together to have a good old mess about.

Last Friday saw a myriad of people participating in various sports and games at the Verney Park playing fields. Irrespective of age, ability or background, everyone got involved in one of the most friendly and enjoyable days of the year.

Highlights included a free-for-all volleyball match, where enthusiastic players crammed themselves tightly into the court and all rules were relaxed in favour of fun, an energetic football tournament, a cricket match for the whole family followed by an enormous tug of war match that spanned half the playing field.

After working up an appetite, people were also treated to a barbecue, snacks and drinks, all courtesy of Dr Harin Sellahewa (Lecturer in Applied Computing), and staff from the School, who organised the day.

During the celebrations, a gift was presented to David Hislop, Manager of the Clore Laboratory, in recognition for his 25 years of dedicated service to the University. Professor Jon Arch, who presented him with a voucher, described him as the rock of the Laboratory.
