Buckingham’s new Diplomacy MA

Students at the United NationsThe Department of Economics and International Studies is launching a new MA in Diplomacy in January. This programme will be taught by academic staff and former diplomats and, we believe, offers the most comprehensive range of diplomacy-related modules in the UK.

Each module examines some key aspect of diplomacy from academic and practitioner perspectives. The degree, which has already attracted considerable interest from several embassies in London, aims to give students the fullest possible academic knowledge of diplomacy and also to prepare students for a range of careers where such knowledge will prove invaluable. Specific modules include Diplomacy, Commercial Diplomacy, Protocol and Etiquette, International Negotiation, The Evolution of Diplomacy, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Law and Diplomacy and The Diplomacy of Conflict and Crisis Management.

As well as lectures and seminars given by leading academic experts in these fields, students will have the opportunity to participate in role-playing exercises designed to help their training in various diplomatic skills and also to hear from current practitioners from a number of countries.
