Another Victory for Buckingham in the National Mooting Competition

Another Victory for Buckingham in the National Mooting CompetitionUniversity of Buckingham Law School students Kimberleigh Malyan and Selvyn Hawkins triumphed last week against the Open University in the Quarter Final of the ICLR National Mooting Competition organised and sponsored by the Law Society.

Our advocates won in by 108 points to 102. They represented the Appellant on a law of negligence problem.

We would like to congratulate our advocates for this brilliant achievement. They showed again that they possess the perseverance and dedication required for success at the Bar.

Credit goes to the opposition who displayed excellent advocacy skills and the District Judge, Charles Duchenne, was faced with a tough decision.

“Buckingham prevailed because of a better strategy, although it was accepted in the end that our advocates produced better presentation skills,” said Dr Gregory Ioannidis.

“I wish to extend my congratulations to Dr Carol Brennan, he continued, who set the basis for achieving this success by helping our advocates with the points of law. Further congratulations to Damien Mitchell, our wonderful clerk and Samuel Brown our Mooting Co-ordinator and to the members of the Law Society for looking after our guests. Thanks also go to Sheena Hopkins.”

Former University of Buckingham students (and now practising barristers) Mr Royln Seeboruth and Miss Elizabeth Hudson travelled from Aylesbury and Newbury respectively to be with our students and support them on the night.

The semi-final will take place on the 28 February.
