Travelling

If you leave the UK , make doubly sure you qualify for re-entry when you return. You should make the following arrangements before travelling

  • check that you have a current passport. If necessary take steps to have it renewed well in advance of your trip abroad.
  • obtain a letter from Registry confirming your status as a registered student, giving at least one week’s notice.
  • check that you hold a current visa. Visa national students whose remaining period of leave to remain is 6 months or less should obtain a multiple entry visa from their own country of origin. Visa national students who do not hold a multiple entry visa and travel abroad will need to obtain a multiple entry visa from a British Embassy or High Commission abroad before returning to the UK.
  • check the visa requirements of countries you intend to visit and obtain the necessary visa. It may be necessary to obtain visas for countries you are travelling through, as well as those you intend to stay in.

All students returning to the UK are required to satisfy the Immigration Officer that they qualify for entry under the appropriate section of the Immigration Rules. You are very strongly advised to make certain before travelling that you are carrying all the documents which you may require to get back into the country and ensure that your leave to remain does not expire while on a visit abroad.
