Registering with the Police

Students from outside the Commonwealth and the European Community who are admitted for longer than six months are normally required to register with the police within seven days of arrival. Failure to register with the police, if required to do so, is a criminal offence.

If you are required to register please ring Buckingham Police Station on +44 (0)845 8505505 to make an appointment. You should ask to speak to The Old Gaol Station Duty Officer in Buckingham. Please take the following documentation with you:

  • your passport
  • two passport-sized photographs of yourself
  • the registration fee of £34.00.

The registration is valid for the duration of your leave to remain and should be renewed every time an extension is granted. The fee, at present £34.00, will be charged for the initial registration certificate, but there is no charge for renewal.

Once registered with the police you must inform the police within seven days of any change of address, or within eight days of a change of your conditions of stay being made.

If you are required to register with the police, you should submit your police registration certificate along with the other documentation when applying for an extension of your leave to remain.
