Bienvenue à l’Université de Buckingham!

Buckingham & Mauritius

Mauritian students have always been an important part of our student community, benefiting from an easy transition from the Mauritian educational system to the British one with which it has many common elements.

Our first Mauritian student graduated in 1979 and our alumni network on the island has since grown to include highly-valued professionals who have earned their degrees in all the different schools at the University.

We very much value this relationship, and continuously make every effort to build upon it!

These pages were created to provide you with essential information about joining The University of Buckingham and about the student experience here.

Entry requirements

English Language requirements
It is very important that your English level is of a good standard for you to be successful in your studies. All applicants must achieve the minimum requirements in all 4 components (listening, reading, speaking and writing). As proof of English Language proficiency you would need Mauritian GCE O Level: C or better in English, or other English language requirements.

Foundation
Foundation programmes provide a bridge between school study in your home country and undergraduate study at a UK university. Choose this course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling with a good school leaving qualification. This programme leads to undergraduate programmes in the Schools of Business, Sciences or Humanities. All the courses are taught by subject specialist staff at Buckingham, so you will be part of university life from your first day.

Agents

We work closely with counsellors and overseas representatives who can advise you on how to apply for your degree as well as in completing your visa application.

You are not obliged to make an application through an agent but we strongly recommend that you consult with them if you require a visa counselling service. The International Office may be able to assist you with your application and let you know what documentation you need to prepare but are unable to offer advice on visas.

Our Mauritian students

Manin Utchanah (LLB)

“The education system in Mauritius is very similar to that of the UK. Therefore the transfer from being educated there to Buckingham was very easy.  Mauritius also doesn’t have many universities so going abroad was always my plan.  The Law School at Buckingham is highly regarded and I can also complete my degree in 2 years, rather than 3.”

Our Mauritian alumni

Rajiv Gujadhur (LLB 2001)

“The University of Buckingham was a life changing experience in more ways than one. Over and above the excellent academic grounding, the university and its people more importantly made me believe in my potential, as a person and as a professional to be. I treasure those moments to this day and want to thank them for it.”

Our alumni work in a range of diverse sectors in well-known companies such as:

  • Basset Chambers
  • KING FAT Chambers
  • Attorney General’s Office
  • MC Law Offices
  • BLC Chambers
  • Beresford Trust & Corporate Services Limited
  • Mauritius Commercial Bank
  • Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation
  • Air Mauritius Ltd

and many more.
