Foundation English
|
Welcome to Foundation English. The University welcomes students from all over the world. Many of our students have English as a second or foreign language. We know how hard it can be to think about taking a BA or BSc degree in a foreign country. We also know, however, that it's a courageous thing to do, and that it gives you a wider view of the world, both culturally and personally. Doing a degree in the medium of the English language expands your view of the world and gives you many more career opportunities. It's great for your future! It may be that your English is not yet of a good enough standard to begin a university degree immediately. Here, in Foundation English, we help you to improve your English before you begin your degree. At the same time we also help you to settle in to the whole world of the University, make friends and feel at home among the students already here. We aim to help you in your transition into full-time education in English, one of the world's most important languages. Here (unlike at many universities) you are taught in small, friendly groups where you can make faster progress in improving your level of spoken and written English. The links on the left-hand side will take you through to more information, particularly about our EAP programmes (i.e. English for Academic Purposes programmes). For Summer 2008 the Level 3 Foundation Programme has been replaced by an 8-week IELTS intensive course for students who need to improve their score to qualify for undergraduate admission to a university degree programme in the UK. |
