There are over 1,000 individual issues of Dickens’s journals to be digitised, corrected, marked up with metadata, indexed, annotated, checked and then presented on our website. The cost of digitising (producing digital images and corrected textfiles of) a single weekly issue is about sterling £40. The full cost of mark-up, indexing, annotating, checking, etc., is three to four times this figure.
If you would like to support DJO in its work, we are delighted to offer you the opportunity to become a named or anonymous sponsor of a particular weekly issue, of either Household Words or All the Year Round. Or both! Your gift, and others like it, will be put in the first instance to the repayment of an interest-free loan granted to the project by a well-wisher in June 2010. This is enabling the final volumes of Household Words and All the Year Round to be processed and uploaded to our website: a crucial step in the larger process of building a state-of-the-art digital edition. Thereafter, all donations go to supporting the technical development of the site’s many innovative features, which allow users to access new information and scholarly resources specially prepared for the project. Thank you again for your support.
By clicking on the link below, you will proceed to the online donating pages of the University of Buckingham Foundation, from where you can make a secure online donation to DJO through the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). Next, however, we’d like to establish your preferences regarding the format and frequency of your gift.
