Hazel Agnew was Deputy Principal of Rydal Penrhos School in North Wales before she entered the world of Higher Education at the University of Keele in 2002. During her time at Keele she taught on the Science PGCE course and designed and directed the Physics Enhancement Programme (PEP), a pre-PGCE course to retrain scientists from other disciplines to teach physics in schools. She was also made director of the Science Additional Specialism Programme (SASP), an in-service Master’s level programme to enhance the expertise of currently serving science teachers in the delivery of the physical sciences in school. Whilst at Keele Hazel also completed her PhD with Worcester University into the specialist teaching of gifted science students within schools. She carried out work on secondment in Saudi Arabia, heading a team of science educational specialists to write specialist science materials for schoolchildren in Saudi Arabian schools and train the teachers to use them. Hazel came to Buckingham in September 2010 to work on the PGCE courses in the Department of Education and is currently engaged on developing these courses alongside Peter Ireland.
