8 March 2007 – Mike Cawthorne reviews obesity drug research for Foresight programme

Mike Cawthorne, Director of Metabolic Research, Clore Laboratory, University of Buckingham, UK, has provided a vision of the impact of drug research on the treatment of obesity 25 years hence for the UK government Office of Science and Innovation Foresight programme on ‘Tackling Obesities: Future Choices’.

The short review looks at drug treatments for obesity since the 1970s, how current drugs were discovered and their effectiveness, and the current status of anti-obesity drug research, including cutting edge research and the likely impact of this research in the next 25 years.
