18 November 2005 – Presentation on diabetes drug discovery at HSBC Diabetes Conference

Mike Cawthorne, Director of Metabolic Research, University of Buckingham, UK, gave a presentation on ‘Insights into future treatments’ to investors at the HSBC Diabetes Conference held in London, UK, on 18 November 2005. Mike outlined the conceptual thinking that led to the discovery of the insulin sensitiser rosiglitazone and how the predicted properties of insulin sensitisers were being realised. Ongoing studies such as ADOPT, RECORD and DREAM are designed to further test the predicted properties.

Mike also discussed the potential of GLP-1 and analogues and the dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors, which prevent GLP-1 degradation.
