1 November 2005 – Mike Cawthorne gives lectures at the Garvan Institute and Deakin University

Mike Cawthorne, Director of Metabolic Research, Clore Laboratory, University of Buckingham, UK, visited the Department of Metabolism and Nutrition, University of Sydney, as a visiting professor at the invitation of Professor Ian Caterson. The prospects for future collaboration were evaluated.

Mike gave a lecture at the Garvan Institute, Darlinghurst, Sydney, and at Deakin University, Geelong, at the invitation of Professors Ted Kraegen and Greg Collier, respectively. The lecture summarised studies undertaken by Dr Claire Stocker at the Clore Laboratory on the in utero and early life programming as a result of pharmacological treatment with leptin and how this protects the offspring against diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in adult life.
