Useful advice for applicants

It’s useful to remember that academic criteria are not the only factors our admissions tutors take into account when assessing your application. They also look for personal qualities, maturity, relevant experience, an awareness of the course and how it fits in with any proposed career path.

Decisions on whether to offer you a place are often made solely on the basis of the application form we receive. Here are some useful tips to consider when filling in your form:

  • Presentation is very important. We are looking for students who are organised and well-motivated. An untidy application form with difficult-to-read handwriting and mistakes will give a poor impression
  • Try writing out your personal statement then leaving it for a few days before revising it. You might think of a better way of saying something after a short wait!
  • Avoid small handwriting, for the same reason as above
  • Get someone to check your form – they may see mistakes that you have overlooked

Please note that while we endeavour to meet all of our candidates before making a formal offer, not all departments at Buckingham are able to interview every applicant & it we are aware that it may be impractical for an applicant to travel to the University.
